The 7th edition of the Levende Etalage Dag Delft (Living Shop Window Display Day) was a unique afternoon out. Organised by Something Extra, around 80 shops took part in this event.

The general idea was that instead of static window displays, the city came to life.  From historic characters to face-painting and fun, there was something for everyone.  To add to the day, there were lots of specials being offered by the shops involved.

At 12.15pm, a parade left Something Extra, located near the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in Delft.  They posed for a group photo in the Markt, which I unfortunately missed, but which you can see on the Facebook Page of Something Extra.

Then, all of the participants, in their fabulous costumes, could be found throughout Delft.  I spent some time wandering with my girls, who were absolutely delighted by the unexpected surprises at each turn. So was I.  It was a rather cold spring day with some rain, but luckily for the hour or so we were there, it stayed dry.

I’ve included a few of my favourite photos at the end of this post, and you can see more at the Living in Delft Facebook Page by clicking on the collage image below:

This video gives a great overview of the day (in Dutch):

Here’s a few of my own photos:

I also bought a great book about Delft for only 5 euros.

As you can see, we had a lot of fun!  If you’re in Delft or surrounds, I highly recommend checking out the Levende Etalage Dag in the future.
