I grew up in Australia and attended primary and secondary school there, while my Dutch husband of course followed the Dutch education system. Our children are now in Dutch primary school, and we’re researching local secondary schools as our eldest starts in 18 months!
She is now in groep 7 and came home yesterday with information flyers for Open Days. They are held early in the year and it’s recommended to start our search now with her so that she can start to list preferences. This time next year, it will be decision time, for her to start in September 2020.
The main difference between the Dutch and Australian education system is that high school is split into 3 streams:
VMBO, HAVO, VWO.
