I grew up in Australia, in the countryside and surrounded by insects, bugs and more. As a child, I learned to identify many of them, and the very important “don’t touch anything” guideline! After all, there are a huge number of poisonous snakes and spiders.
Still, I am amazed by the huge diversity. Many species are native to Australia but sadly many are also introduced from around the world and can devastate the native biodiversity.
Recently going through old photos I found this one I took somewhere on the Sunshine Coast in 2007.

Do you know what it is? I didn’t! Back then I couldn’t ask AI but now have discovered that it is a stink bug. I do vaguely remember them, and just found a useful Australian website to learn more:
