I’ve reviewed a number of books on this website but this one is a little different – I’m a co-author! Over the last year, I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with a number of very talented bloggers and writers to product this book.
With 45 stories from 27 contributors, it includes tales of culture shock, eating and shopping, bikes, language, working, tax, making friends, marrying a Dutchie, giving birth, raising children in the Netherlands, Dutch doctors and more.
You can buy the kindle version on Amazon and a print version will be available soon.
My story is called “To cycle or not to cycle, that is the question” and compares my experiences with bikes in Australia and the Netherlands. Here’s just the first section…
“Growing up in Australia, I was one of the few children who couldn’t ride a bike. Our family literally lived on the side of a mountain, in a beautiful rural town. With a steep driveway from our house to the street, very narrow, winding roads and a substantial distance to the nearest town, it wasn’t at all practical to cycle. In fact, I rode a horse around our 25 acre property, caught the bus 45 minutes each way to the local school, and, to get anywhere else, travelled with my parents in the car. I do remember trying out a friends bike once or twice on a very steep slope and giving up after a fall. There was very little need or opportunity to cycle.”.
You can imagine how the next part of the story may go when I moved to the Netherlands!
If you do purchase a copy, we’d also love a review on Amazon to help us boost our recommendations there.
