Reciprocal health care between Australia and The Netherlands

Reciprocal health care between Australia and The Netherlands

Travelling between Australia and the Netherlands?

If you are a resident in either country and travel for a short term holiday, did you know that you may be eligible for reciprocal health care between Australia and The Netherlands?

If you live in Australia and travel to The Netherlands

Travelling between Australia and The Netherlands? Even if you are originally from The Netherlands but now reside in Australia, you are not likely to have maintained your health cover in The Netherlands.  So if you visit The Netherlands again short term, before you leave, make sure you take a look at this link:

http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/services/medicare/reciprocal-health-care-agreements

Scroll down to the “you need to know” section and make sure you download the form to complete and post.

If you live in The Netherlands and travel to Australia

In reverse, you can find the relevant information here:

http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/medicare/reciprocal-health-care-agreements/health-care-for-visitors-to-australia

So if you have a dutch healthcare card, bring it with you to Australia and if you do need treatment at a doctor or hospital, you can use this (subject to the information in that link).

Even though you can receive reciprocal health care between Australia and The Netherlands, I think in most cases, it’s still worthwhile to also take out travel insurance

Please note that this information is intended as a helpful guide and can change….I recommend you check directly with the authorities for your own personal circumstance.

  1. Hello. My wife and I are travelling to the Netherlands this year (2017) and will be submitting the A111 form for reciprocal medical care. Do you know if we need to submit a separate form each or can we have both our names on the one form?
